finished around 7 am today. this is probably the most work ive put into an outside project ever, and im glad to see it finally finished after going through all the stages of concept, to sketch, to composition, to pre-pencil, to inking, and then lettering.

our theme for this project was creation/destruction, so while reading national geographic one day read i an article that pretty much set this in my head. although it changed a lot from my initial idea, and with some advice and inspiration from my friend John Orlow it is what we have now. And, of course my sis posed for a lot of reference picture, which added a new level to the overall look.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out when it was rough, Bud for positive feedback, Sis for being a great model, Mom for being so supportive and Krystle, who said i could finish it even before i started.

maybe this is too much for just this project, but if you were bored, then you proably already started reading it. :P

well maybe the weekly posting idea has become more of a monthly thing. that doesnt mean i dont have stuff to show, most of the good stuff is too bu for my scanner though. and as of right now i dont even have a scanner so i can show stuff til next week.

im going to try to simultaneously enjoy sprng break (normal hourrssf sleep)and get some work done. should be fun.

the monster show

hoorah! my first real art show, it will be awesome.

"The Monster Show" @ CSULB, next sunday the 25th. ill scan the flyer later when im back at CSULB and ill litter anaheim hills with the little monster flyers too! My lobster from a last semester project got in and it feels good to pass a jury of the heads of the art department for the show. yay! and of course ill try to post a pic of my piece, and even if you dont like mine there are some great ones by teachers and top students from our school.

new semester

the semester has begun, and my first assignment for illustration A is a drawing based on an article about the migling of sports terms in everyday language. hoorah! here were my two roughs i showed today.

the one above is based on the term "saved by the bell,"

and this was the one she really liked. "chalk talk," you can kind of tell

the kind of influence calvin and hobbes has had on meh.

What i really want to do is bust out a new style for the illustration, something

to catch the eye, or more like wrestle it to submission.... we'll see how that goes.

maybe too much lucha libre...nah.

OoO and i went to L.A. last friday as a kind of last hurrah before school, here are some pics from the trip, i went to check out some graffiti spots but wasnt too sucessful, but i cant say it wasnt a fun day.

this should be rare, a post with no pics. its just too late to scan and not wake anyone. anyway i was looking at this blog and two things popped into my head: A) it wasnt the best idea to try and commit to a blog right before finals due to the heavy workload and B) only ten posts! thats crap, i have tons more stuff to show than that. So from now on it will be hopefully a minimum weekly post, or i will be very sad.

On another note, GO SEE ....PAN'S LABRINTH! awesome is the only word i can think of.
Lately I've felt kinda out of it for a lot of reasons but also in the last few days i found some sources for inspiration in all directions. muy bueno para la salud.

Overall I like it and I think its good for a first try.

The great thing about finishing it was that it opened up a lot

of new ideas and directions and now I think I'll enjoy my
